The City of London really turns on a show every Christmas when the city's streets and shops are transformed by the spectacular array of lights and Christmas decorations. Whether young or old, or whether you in fact celebrate Christmas, you can't help being spellbound by the fairylights and being drawn into the festive spirit.
The Christmas lights are traditionally switched on by a line up of popular celebrities and thousands come to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars and also to enjoy some entertainment. Each of the major streets like Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regent Street have their own lighting ceremony. Then, there's the lighting of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree which is brought over from Norway each year. The tree is a gift from the City of Oslo as a gesture of goodwill and friendship.
We were in London at Christmas a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas lights treat. This is certainly an atmospheric city to do your Christmas shopping.
