Apart from its Scenery and Beaches There are Other Things to Do in Positano:
Positano town is set on the face of a small hill and its picturesque setting along the Amalfi Coast is one of its main attractions. The town has two beautiful beaches and the sun, sand, sea and scenery are enough to attract thousands of visitors to Positano each year.
Things to Do in Positano
For those travelling from the north, Positano is your gateway to the Amalfi Coast, one of Italy’s most scenic stretch of coastlines. The town’s natural beauty and its beaches are what most visitors come to enjoy. However, if you want to explore the cultural side of Positano, the main monument in town is the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta whose majestic majolica dome is unmissable. This 1920s church is the location of the Madonna di Positano, a 13th century Byzantine icon, linked to a local legend of how Positano was discovered. According to this legend, some pirates who had stolen the icon from Byzantium were transporting it across the Mediterranean when they were caught in a deadly storm outside of Positano. The terrified pirates heard a voice telling them “Posa, posa” (put down, put down). When they came ashore and carried the icon to the village, the storm abated.
Shopping in Positano
We didn’t come to Positano to shop, but Positano’s many shops with their colourful goods are hard to resist. I think that’s where most of the ladies in our group lost themselves in and later complained about not having enough time in Positano. The main streets and alleyways are lined with shops offering plenty of casual wear, colourful beach wear and accessories. For dressier styles, head for the boutiques in Via Pasitea where you’ll see the Positano Fashion that the local designers have created and which are pretty much in demand.
But there’s more to shopping in Positano than just clothing. Positano is also famous for its limoncello and lemon products and you’ll see the bright yellow colour all over town .
Positano Beaches
Relaxing on the beach is one of the pleasures of a stay in Positano. The Spiaggia Grande is the main beach with rows and rows of deck chairs and umbrellas for hire. Fornillo, the smaller and more secluded beach, requires a little effort to get to.
Positano Tours
Excursions and ferry tours to Capri and other Amalfi Coast towns are very popular. We saw many visitors leaving for Capri on day excursions. If you’re staying in Positano, it’s easy to do ferry trips to Amalfi, Salerno and Sorrento.
There are many cafes and restaurants in Positano where one can enjoy a break and soak in the atmosphere of this town. If you feel more energetic, you can also take the local bus to Montepertuso where there are a number of popular restaurants as well.
Getting Married in Positano
Positano is a romantic destination and many newly weds come to spend their honeymoon here. The Positano Council is also very keen to have couples celebrate their wedding here. If the romance of the place overcomes you and you want to get married here, the Town Hall is available for wedding ceremonies from 09:00 to 23:00 from Monday to Saturday. From the balcony of the Town Hall, with breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast, you can say “I do” here.
In Positano you can do as much or as little as you like but many would agree that this is the place to chill out.
