HAMPTON COURT FLOWER SHOW – UK’S LARGEST FLOWER SHOW AT HAMPTON COURT PALACE:
Hampton Court Palace, to the south west of London, is the venue for many events and one of the most popular is the annual Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Organized by the Royal Horticultural Society, the Hampton Court Flower Show is the largest gardening show in the U.K.
Visitors to the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show can admire the many different gardens created specially for the show, as well as shop for thousands of plants and the latest in garden products and innovations.
Health, Happiness and Horticulture
To make it ever interesting for regular visitors and home gardeners, every summer the flower show features new gardens specially created for the event. This year’s RHS theme of Health, Happiness and Horticulture is strongly reflected in the chosen garden designs. This concept permeates the display gardens across the show.
Some of the designs reflect the present day plight and struggles that people go through to try and improve their health and happiness. Topical themes include the plight of the refugees (UNHCR ‘Border Control Garden’) and the vulnerability of people living in less stable regions of the world (World Vision). The four main garden categories are:
The key themes in this year’s Show Gardens reflect simplicity, a new naturalism and wellbeing. For example, the Viking River Cruises Scandinavian Garden gives a sense of wild, Nordic shoreline with a relaxing informality and calming wildflowers.
The Conceptual Gardens challenge visitors in their perceptions of what gardens can and should be. Represented in this category are contemporary issues and themes.
Water Gardens are back at the show, so too has Jeni Cairns, winner of 2014’s Best Summer Garden.
Summer Gardens are always popular with visitors and include some colourful designs.
Hampton Court was the royal residence of many monarchs, most famously, Henry VIII. At Hampton Court Palace you can learn about all of his six wives who came to the palace, most of whom had new and lavish lodgings. The King rebuilt his own rooms at least half a dozen times.
