French Open
The French Open (Tournoi de Roland-Garros) is a tennis event held in Paris from mid-May though to early June. It is the second Grand Slam tournament played in the year and the next French Open will be held from Sunday 28 May to Sunday 11 June 2006.
The Paris Autumn Festival (Festival d'Automne à Paris)
Held annually in autumn, in 2006 September 14 - December 25, this festival features contemporary arts, including dance, sculpture, literature, film, theatre and music. As an international festival, the participating artists come from all over the world. The Festival's activities fall into four categories :
- To present original works not previously produced in France
- To commission new work, often in collaboration with leading French, and European institutions, and North American partners
- To provoke and present experimental work. Since the early days of the Festival, special attention has focused on the emergence of new talents
- To provide access to non-western cultures, featuring major presentations from different countries and civilisations, including Japan, China, Australia, Morocco, India, Korea, Egypt, South Africa, Iran...
Paris Marathon
Entries are closed for this year, at 35,000! The Marathon will be run on 9 April, starting at 08:45 with the Marathon Expo running (excuse pun!) on the 6th, 7th and 8th of April. The race begins at the Place de la Concorde (see the Course Route Map).
World Circus Festival of Tomorrow
(Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain)
This circus festival is held on a yearly basis and consists of a gathering of leading international circus performers from famous schools around the world. It was held on February 3-7 in 2006.
Horse Racing in France
Horse racing is a popular sport and pastime in France and two of the biggest and most important race horsing events are held in Paris at Longchamps. The Prix de la République and the Grand Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe are both held on the first and last Sunday in October.

Based entirely on chocolate, this international festival is held in a convention centre beneath the Louvre, and attracts chocolatiers and chocaholics alike, from all over the world (100,000 a day!). Discover the latest in industry trends from a series of chocolate tastings, demonstrations and symposiums as well as witnessing douceurs and chocolatiers creating their masterpieces. Exhibitions include the history of chocolate from pre-Colombian times to the present day and chocolate sculpture and art. You can even get chocolate makeup for your kids.
