<p>For our overnight stop in Granada we stayed at the<strong> <a rel="nofollow" title="Los Aljibes Hotel, Granada" href="http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/puerta-de-los-aljibes.en-gb.html?aid=322131;sid=7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375;srfid=3b4782a9164cd4f27da39266a6481e56X36" target="_blank">M.A Puerta de los Aljibes</a></strong>, a modern hotel on <em>Avenida de Pulianas</em> which is just outside of central Granada.</p>
<h4>A Modern Design Granada Hotel</h4>
<p>Puerta de los Aljibes is a design hotel with very pleasant interior decoration. Our room was quite narrow but deep, so there was enough space to spread out. The room has a large flat-screen television, the shower worked well and the bed is comfortable.  There is a pool on the roof, which we didn&#8217;t have time to use. The hotel is close to the University of Granada so the train and bus stations are nearby. The bullring is close by as well.</p>

<p><strong>What We Liked About Our Granada Accommodation:</strong></p>
<p>Internet is free in the room.  The interior decoration gives the place a bright and welcoming feel.</p>
<p><strong>What We Weren&#8217;t Keen On</strong></p>
<p>We arrived after 5:00 p.m. and wanted to get to the<a title="Capilla Real" href="http://www.travelsignposts.com/Spain/sightseeing/capilla-real-granada" target="_blank"><strong> Capilla Real</strong></a> before it closed at 7 p.m. Although the reception staff told us that it was a 20-minute walk, it was actually more like a 25-minute fast walk each way.</p>
<p>Dinner for us was a buffet dinner which was okay, but like most hotel buffets it is nothing to rave about.</p>
<p><div id="attachment_1344" class="wp-caption alignright" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://www.travelsignposts.com/destination/Spain/Granada/hotel-puerta-de-los-aljibes_AJP_4183"><img src="http://www.travelsignposts.com/Spain/files/2011/11/AJP_4183-300x198.jpg" alt="Puerta de los Aljibes Hotel - Granada " title="Puerta de los Aljibes Granada Hotel" width="300" height="198" class="size-medium wp-image-1344" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Bathroom of Puerta de los Aljibes, Granada </p></div>Whilst the Puerta de los Aljibes is a very pleasant and comfortable modern hotel,  for our short stay in Granada we would have preferred to be closer to the Old Town so as to have a little more time exploring it and perhaps go out in the evening.  There are many hotels close by, such as the<a title="Hesperia Granada Hotel" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/hesperiagranada.en-gb.html?aid=322131;sid=7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375;srfid=a6afe5d321a708bf37b9439842ea9bedX13" target="_blank"><em> Hesperia Granada</em></a>, which is 200 metres from Granada Cathedral, or the <a title="Suites Gran Via 44, Granada hotel" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/suites-gran-via-44.en-gb.html?aid=322131;sid=7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375" target="_blank"><em>Suites Gran Via 44</em> </a>on Gran Via de Colon.  Hotels in Granada’s <a title="Albaycin hotels" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?src=country&amp;error_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.booking.com%2Fcountry%2Fes.en-gb.html%3Faid%3D322131%3Bsid%3D7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375%3B&amp;aid=322131&amp;sid=7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375&amp;si=ai%2Cco%2Cci%2Cre%2Cdi&amp;ss=Granada%2C+Spain&amp;checkin_monthday=0&amp;checkin_year_month=0&amp;checkout_monthday=0&amp;checkout_year_month=0&amp;idf=on&amp;dest_type=city&amp;dest_id=-384328&amp;ssne=Granada%2C+Spain#!/searchresults.en-gb.html?aid=322131;class_interval=1;dest_id=-384328;dest_type=city;idf=1;nflt=district%3D1239;order=class;radius=0;review_score_group=empty;score_min=0;sid=7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375;ssb=empty" target="_blank"><em>Albaycín district</em></a> which is the medieval Moorish Quarter and a UNESCO World Heritage Site would have been preferable as well.  <a title="Granada hotels" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?src=country&amp;error_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.booking.com%2Fcountry%2Fes.en-gb.html%3Faid%3D322131%3Bsid%3D7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375%3B&amp;aid=322131&amp;sid=7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375&amp;si=ai%2Cco%2Cci%2Cre%2Cdi&amp;ss=Granada%2C+Spain&amp;checkin_monthday=0&amp;checkin_year_month=0&amp;checkout_monthday=0&amp;checkout_year_month=0&amp;idf=on&amp;dest_type=city&amp;dest_id=-384328&amp;ssne=Granada%2C+Spain#!/searchresults.en-gb.html?aid=322131;class_interval=1;dest_id=-384328;dest_type=city;idf=1;nflt=;order=popularity;review_score_group=empty;rows=20;score_min=0;sid=7d4ef971cd1c06c6979e270d6db5b375;ssb=empty" target="_blank">For all <strong>Granada hotels</strong> see HERE.</a></p>

Telefonica is the former monopoly, but there are other suppliers now. Spanish landline phone numbers always have nine digits; there are no separate long distance codes in Spain, wherever you are you just dial the number, which includes the area code. Spain&#8217;s telephone country code is 34.</p>

<h4>Money:</h4>
<p>The Euro (€)</p>
<ul>
<li>As of January 1, 2002, the <strong>euro (€)</strong> replaced the national currency of 12 countries within the European Union, including Spain. You can <strong>exchange currency</strong> at any bank branch (hours are listed below). <strong>Automatic cash machines</strong> can be found in most commercial centres.</li>
<li><strong>Bank Opening Hours </strong><strong></strong>Standard banking hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30-9:00 in the morning until 2:00-2:30 in the afternoon. Some banks also extend hours once a week and/or are open on Saturdays from 9:00-13:00.<br />
Note: In the summer months (June-August) most banks tend to shorten their opening hours. Don&#8217;t be late, either &#8211; Spanish banks are tough when it comes to closing time.</li>
<li><strong>ATMs (cash machines)</strong>Most cash machines/ATMs (cajeros) in Spain operate on either the ServiRed or the 4B network (also known as Telebanco). Check which one your bank is affiliated to.</li>
<li><strong>Currency exchange</strong>Currency exchange can be carried out at all bank branches, bureaux de change and major hotels, but banks give the best rates</li>
</ul>
