When to travel to Spain: weather and seasons

In short, avoid the winter, especially in the North, it can be wet. With both an Atlantic and Mediterranean seabord and mountainous countryside with high plateaux, you'll find plenty of climatic variation.

The East and West coasts have milder winters, but the high plains and mountainous sierras may be extremely cold.

High summer can be fiery (we're talking high 30's C here), but it's a dry heat, and although it hit 40C when I was last in Seville, it's quite bearable. July is the warmest month, avoid going then if you don't like it hot.

Fiestas

Spain is fiesta mad, there's always some holiday or other taking place within striking distance of wherever you are, and the better known ones, like the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona and La Tomatina in Bunol (Valencia) are world-famous. It's well worth checking out what's on during the period you're thinking of going.
