Poland (Eyewitness Travel Guides) (Paperback) 2007Jan 2007 edition, covers Warsaw, Mazovia and the Lublin Region, Cracow, Lesser Poland, Silesia, Gdansk, Pomerania, Warmia, Mazuria, and the Bialystock Region. In other words, everywhere you could conceivably want to go in its 384 pages. Unless you particularly want to concentrate on Cracow and Warsaw, I would go for the general guide rather than the individual city ones. There's usually good coverage of the major cities in these country guides and this one is probably not going to be different. |

Eyewitness Travel Guide to WarsawA 2003 edition but little has changed in the historical aspects. Of course, the practical details should be treated with care, but in general the book holds up remarkably well. As with all Eyewitness guides, the emphasis is on showing you where things are rather than just telling you - with the details of building interiors this can be extremely useful and make the difference between finding and not finding a feature. |

DK Eyewitness Travel Guides: Cracow (Eyewitness Travel Guides)I like Cracow, it's a very liveable type of place. This is the Jan 2007 sister guide to the Warsaw one above, and the same comments apply. Cracow is purported to be one of Europe's best preserved medieval cities, this book gives coverage to its museums, galleries, churches, cemetries, hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues, as well as guided walks and maps to the Royal Castles, Market squares and Cracow Cathedral. |

Lonely Planet Eastern Europe (Eastern Europe, 9th Ed Feb 2007)This is massive, 998 pages. I used an earlier edition when I toured the Eastern capitals. It covers Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Moscow & St Petersburg, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Basically aimed at the backpacker, I still found it useful as a overall information back-up in just a single volume. |
