Small it may be, but CROATIA really packs a punch when it comes to world-class sightseeing attractions.  UNESCO described Dubrovnik as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ and the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit every year is testimony of its attraction for visitors.

The world may be spinning into recession, but nothing stops tourism to Croatia - tourist numbers for the first two months of the year have actually increased.

So why is Croatia such a mecca for tourists?

The country is blessed with 2629 hours of sunshine per annum, 1,780 km of coastline on the Adriatic Sea, endless stretches of beautiful sandy beaches and some 1,180 islands, islets and reefs spread along the coast like pearls on the Adriatic. 

But Croatia is more than just sun, sand and sea. The country’s historical monuments, complexes and natural landmarks are so special that UNESCO have listed seven of them as World Heritage sights to-date, with the potential of more listings in the future.  

Current UNESCO World Heritage sights include:

• Dubrovnik – The Old City of Dubrovnik
• Split – The historical complex of Diocletian’s Palace
• Trogir – The ancient city of Trogir
• Porec – Euphrasius’ Basilica
• Sibenik – St. Jacob’s Cathedral
• Plitvice Lakes National Park
• Hvar – Stari Grad Plain

In addition to its rich cultural heritage, Croatia’s interesting terrain makes it possible to ski, climb, dive, do water rafting, hunt, fish, golf, camp or just relax.  There’s activities for everyone here.
