RHS |Chelsea Flower Show

Spring is in the air in the northern hemisphere and this is a great time of the year for gardeners and garden enthusiasts The Chelsea Flower Show is on in London from May 19-23 and is the ultimate event in the gardening calendar.

The Show sets the latest gardening trends, features the newest and most desirable gardening products and creates an explosion of colours and scents.  Organized by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), it draws exhibitors from all over the world, including countries as far away as Barbados, Sri Lanka, Australia, Jamaica, South Africa and Zimbabwe.  The event is held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea and there are some 600 Bed of flowersexhibitors at the show.  The exhibits are judged by specialist RHS judging panels before the show opens, and medallions are awarded for the winners.

Not to be missed is the Great Pavilion which is the centrepiece of the Chelsea Flower Show.  Here you can enjoy some of the best garden displays and have the opportunity to exchange ideas and get advice from some of Britain’s leading growers and plant specialists, who are a key part of the show.

The organisers advise that another must-see at the show are the Show Gardens, which in past years included The Amnesty International Garden, Chris Beardshaw – Celebrating 100 years of Hidcote Manor and controversial garden designer – Diarmud Gavin’s Westland Garden.Bed of flowers

Anyone who’s been to England will agree that the English are masters at gardening.  Gardening is considered to be an art form rather than a past-time as can be seen in most stately homes, manor houses and historic buildings with vast grounds that are superbly maintained.

My hairdresser is a keen gardener and although he doesn’t enjoy overseas travel, the Chelsea Flower Show is the only thing that will get him on the plane.  Click on this link for further information on booking tickets for the Chelsea Flower Show.
