You had a choice of staying back\u00a0in Passau where you could do\u00a0a walking tour of town, followed by a scenic cruise from Passau into Austria and on to Linz, Austria&#8217;s third <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/3769-2\/DSC_0227.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Passau to Salzburg\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Passau to Salzburg\" \/>largest city, or take an optional full-day tour to Salzburg.\u00a0This tour takes you to the\u00a0most popular Sound of Music sights including the Wedding Church, the exquisite Mirabell Gardens, the Great Salzburg Festival Hall and much more.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/3758-2\/DSC_0222.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Salzburg countryside\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Salzburg countryside\" \/>We chose to do the tour, not that we were keen fans of the Sound of Music, but more to do the photography.\u00a0 Salzburg is also the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and this is a good enough reason to visit.\u00a0 The coach trip from Passau to Salzburg takes you through lovely countryside. It was a change being on a coach again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Along the way, our guide pointed out the holiday homes of the rich and famous (Schumacher&#8217;s ranch was grand)\u00a0and filled us in <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/3771-2\/IMG_6051.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Salzburg countryside1\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Salzburg countryside1\" \/>with lots of trivia, for example: Did you know that <em>Bambi <\/em>was written by an Austrian, Felix Salten,\u00a0in 1923 ( &#8220;<em>Bambi, ein Leben im Walde<\/em>&#8220;) and the script\u00a0was acquired by Walt Disney in late 1930s.\u00a0\u00a0Joseph Mohr, the creator of &#8216;Silent Night!
