The <em>Stiftskirche<\/em> has one of the finest baroque towers in all of Austria, and we all clicked away trying to capture the best shot of the tower.<\/p>\n<p>The town itself is about 15 minutes walk from where the boat is moored and for those with mobility problems, a small train was provided to transport passengers into town.\u00a0 If you were fortunate to score a train ride in, you&#8217;ll travel through great stretches of vineyards.\u00a0 Since many centuries vineyards have been cultivated in the Wachau. The special climate, the ground and the careful work of the wine-growers let the grapes develop into excellent wines.\u00a0 <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/5137-2\/DSC_0576.jpg?resize=85%2C110\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Blondel\" height=\"110\" style=\"width: 85px; height: 110px\" title=\"Blondel\" \/>Every year the vintners produce high-qualities of &#8220;Riesling&#8221; and &#8220;Gr\u00fcner Veltliner&#8221; which are famous worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00fcrnstein is known as the &#8220;<em>Pearl of the Wachau<\/em>&#8221; and achieved 12th-century notoriety for its imprisonment of Richard the Lion-Heart of England in 1192.\u00a0 Be aware that the actual castle is NOT the one at the top of the hill in D\u00fcrnstein, but the ruins a little lower down.
