attraction,\u00a0was the first activity of the day.\u00a0\u00a0The castle stands on the basalt core of an extinct volcano and it\u00a0dominates the city from its rocky crag.\u00a0 Although early in the morning, there<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/21882-2\/Scot_0024.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Edinburgh Castle\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Edinburgh Castle\" \/> were already several coaches stationed in the parking lot.\u00a0 We recognized the stand from where we&#8217;ll be watching the Edinburgh Military Tattoo tonight and it then\u00a0dawned on\u00a0us\u00a0that we were actually standing right\u00a0on the grounds where the Tattoo\u00a0takes place.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/21910-2\/Scot_0039.jpg?resize=85%2C110\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"The Great Hall\" height=\"110\" style=\"width: 85px; height: 110px\" title=\"The Great Hall\" \/>Luckily for us, our local guide had already attended to the purchase of tickets and we were able to enter the Castle without delay.\u00a0 Our first stop was at the Great Hall which contained a collection of armour and weapons.\u00a0 As our guide commented that there were probably more weapons of mass destruction in this room than in\u00a0all of Iraq.<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/21922-2\/Scot_0046.jpg?resize=85%2C110\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"St. Margaret's Chapel\" height=\"110\" style=\"width: 85px; height: 110px\" title=\"St. Margaret's Chapel\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the north-eastern point, you&#8217;ll see this beautiful stained glass window in St. Margaret&#8217;s Chapel, one of the smallest churches in Britain and the oldest in Edinburgh.\u00a0 The chapel was building by Queen Margaret&#8217;s son, David I in the early 12th century, however the stained glass is the 20th century work of Douglas Strahan.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Anyone named Margaret can join the St. Margaret&#8217;s Chapel Fellowship and contribute to the flowers placed in the chapel on November 16th, St. Margaret&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/21928-2\/Scot_0049.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Mons Meg\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Mons Meg\" \/>We had time to wonder around the battlements, explore the various stages of the castle&#8217;s development and pose for snaps\u00a0next to the mighty Mons Meg.\u00a0 This famous cannon is so big that apparently a woman gave birth in its barrel!\u00a0Believe It, Believe It Not!<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re able to hang around till one o&#8217;clock, you&#8217;ll also be able to witness the One O&#8217;Clock Gun go off at Mill&#8217;s Mount Battery.\u00a0 The Gun has been fired almost every day since
