Newtonmore is home base for the <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/22080-2\/Scot_0211.jpg?resize=85%2C110\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"The Cairngorms National Park\" height=\"110\" style=\"width: 85px; height: 110px\" title=\"The Cairngorms National Park\" \/>MacPherson clan.\u00a0 For those in the know, it is also the central location for the hit television series &#8216;Monarch of the Glen&#8217;.\u00a0 Newtonmore is situated in Britain&#8217;s largest National Park -The Cairngorms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Our stay tonight is at the Highlander, a family-operated hotel.\u00a0 To me, it was more like a motel.\u00a0 The thing that stuck in my mind was the wet bathroom.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t understand why they&#8217;d have a wet bathroom, especially in a cold <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/22086-2\/Scot_0214.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Haggis\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Haggis\" \/>climate,\u00a0and to us it was a bit of a pain.<\/p>\n<p>This evening our\u00a0Highlight Dinner included haggis, accompanied by a\u00a0bagpipe performance.\u00a0\u00a0The Strathspey Pipe Band provided the fanfare for the serving of haggis.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/22090-2\/Scot_0216.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Strathspey pipe band\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Strathspey pipe band\" \/>Haggis is one of those dishes that is either loved or reviled.\u00a0\u00a0Although I don&#8217;t know anything about what it actually tastes like,\u00a0the fact that it&#8217;s made from stuffed intestines and offal and the description of\u00a0how it&#8217;s made sounds rather horrific and I looked at the dish with deep suspicion.\u00a0 Luckily, being a vegetarian, I was able to politely decline the dish.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Newtonmore offers quiet and relaxing walks in the hills and glens.<\/p>\n<p>Helen<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAY 4 &#8211; This afternoon we crossed the Grampian Mountains for\u00a0our hotel in Newtonmore.
