<span class=\"standard\">Dublin Castle is situated in the very heart of historic Dublin.\u00a0 The city got its name from the Dubh Linn or Black Pool (<em>dubh<\/em> means <em>black<\/em>), on the site of the present Castle Gardens and Coach House. <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/17577-2\/DSC_0280.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Dublin Castle\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Dublin Castle\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"standard\">Dublin Castle&#8217;s history is extensive and many of the Castle&#8217;s functions adapted and changed over the centuries. \u00a0It was\u00a0always the centre of the English colonial administration and the Castle\u00a0acted as the official residence of successive royal chief representatives such as\u00a0Chief Lieutenant, Lord Lieutenant or Viceroy and visiting English Kings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"standard\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/17579-2\/DSC_0282.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Main staircase\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Main staircase\" \/>In 1565, thirty years after Henry VIII brought the Reformation to Ireland, the new Lord Deputy Henry Sidney moved his household into Dublin Castle. \u00a0From that point on the Castle became the control centre for the vicious wars and religious persecution against the Irish Chieftains and the &#8216;Old English&#8217; Catholics, many of whom were of Norman stock.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"standard\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/17607-2\/DSC_0303.jpg?resize=85%2C110\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Drawing Room - Dublin Castle\" height=\"110\" style=\"width: 85px; height: 110px\" title=\"Drawing Room - Dublin Castle\" \/>The whole island of Ireland had been conquered by the end of Queen Elizabeth&#8217;s reign, and new English landholding, political and social structures were imposed.\u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"standard\">In the disastrous fire of 7th April 1684 much of medieval Dublin Castle, including the old Parliament House, burnt down.\u00a0 Rebuilding works began and more stately accommodation replaced the medieval fortification.\u00a0 So began the modern era in the Castle&#8217;s history.<\/span><span class=\"standard\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"standard\"><\/span><span class=\"standard\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/17617-2\/DSC_0310.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"State Apartments - Dublin Castle\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px;
