height: 85px\" title=\"Grand Bazaar\" \/>goods that can be found here.\u00a0 For most of us tourists who need to bring home gifts or souvenirs for friends and family, you&#8217;ll find something for all in this Aladdin&#8217;s cave of retail shops.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/35231-2\/AJP_2143.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Pedestrian Precinct - Grand Bazaar\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Pedestrian Precinct - Grand Bazaar\" \/>The district itself seems to have enjoyed some increased prosperity and development, with the main street to the bazaar being converted into a smart <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/GrandBazaar\/AJP_2143.jpg.html\" title=\"Pedestrian precinct - Grand Bazaar\">pedestrian precinct<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Luxury shops and cafes line both sides of the boulevard and there are smart street benches where tourists and locals alike are able to\u00a0relax\u00a0under leafy plain trees.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/35259-2\/DSC_0124.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Water Pipes shop\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Water Pipes shop\" \/>The Grand Bazaar claims to be the oldest covered bazaar in the world, and with sixty lanes of approximately 3,000 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/GrandBazaar\/DSC_0124.jpg.html\" title=\"Water Pipes stall\">shops<\/a>, it&#8217;s no wonder that it also claims the distinction of being the largest bazaar.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been here about four times now and have only managed to cover a small portion of the Bazaar.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/35267-2\/DSC_0129.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Tony in a Sultan's hat\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Tony in a Sultan's hat\" \/>In the old days, each lane was reserved for a different trade or profession and the handicrafts produced here were rigorously controlled.\u00a0 Business ethics and traditions were strictly adhered to and\u00a0the tradesmen commanded so much respect and trust that people used to ask them to safeguard or invest their money.\u00a0 Unfortunately, this is no longer the case!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/35273-2\/DSC_0250.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Main Street of Grand Bazaar\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Main Street of Grand Bazaar\" \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/GrandBazaar\/DSC_0250.jpg.html\" title=\"Main Street of Grand Bazaar\">main street <\/a>of the Bazaar is lined with jewelry shops and the glitter from all the gold and diamond is enough to dazzle you.\u00a0 Prices vary and bargaining\u00a0is customary in these shops.\u00a0 If you intend buying jewelry, it&#8217;s important to compare prices in a few shops to get a sense of what a reasonable price might be.\u00a0 I bought a lovely gold necklace on a previous trip and a ring last year so this time around I was able to resist the temptation, especially with the current escalated gold price.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/35287-2\/DSC_0256.jpg?resize=85%2C110\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Cafe Sultan - Grand Bazaar\" height=\"110\" style=\"width: 85px; height: 110px\" title=\"Cafe Sultan - Grand Bazaar\" \/>In some of the side lanes\u00a0we noticed lots of funky new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/GrandBazaar\/DSC_0256.jpg.html\" title=\"Cafe Sultan - Grand Bazaar\">cafes <\/a>where you could take a refreshing break, and this is a vast improvement from previous visits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although crowded and bustling, the Grand Bazaar is a fun place to visit as shop owners beckon you into their stores with promises of the best quality goods and prices.
