After you&#8217;re through with visits inside these monuments, it is worthwhile spending time ambling around the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/SultanAhmet\/AJP_1929.jpg.html\" title=\"Sultan Ahmet Square\">square <\/a>as the atmosphere is pleasant and its interesting observing the varied activities of locals as opposed to tourists whose single purpose is to snap anything they can with their cameras.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/35011-2\/AJP_2018.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Sultan Ahmet Square benches - Istanbul\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Sultan Ahmet Square benches - Istanbul\" \/>There are rows of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/SultanAhmet\/AJP_2018.jpg.html\" title=\"Sultan Ahmet Square benches\">benches <\/a>where you can sit, relax and enjoy the view of either the Blue Mosque or Hagia Sophia.\u00a0 It was a hot day and a couple of these\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/SultanAhmet\/DSC_0066.jpg.html\" title=\"Drink vendors in Sultan Ahmet Square\">drink vendors <\/a>were doing a good trade quenching the thirst of tourists.\u00a0 They are very colorfully clad and the pouring of the drink itself is a performance\u00a0that&#8217;s enjoyable to watch.\u00a0 But beware,\u00a0whilst busily doing their<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/34951-2\/DSC_0066.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Colorful drink vendor - Sultanahmet Square Istanbul\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Colorful drink vendor - Sultanahmet Square Istanbul\" \/> trade, they are also on the watchout for tourists who may be taking snaps of them\u00a0without\u00a0buying their drink. \u00a0I&#8217;m always reluctant to buy the drink, just in case I didn&#8217;t like it, and I wouldn&#8217;t like to offend them by not drinking.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/35167-2\/AJP_2092.jpg?resize=85%2C110\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Fountain in Sultan Ahmet Square Istanbul\" height=\"110\" style=\"width: 85px; height: 110px\" title=\"Fountain in Sultan Ahmet Square Istanbul\" \/>In the middle of the garden, there is a pond with seats around it so that one can rest and enjoy\u00a0the central <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/SultanAhmet\/AJP_2092.jpg.html\" title=\"Central Fountain\">fountain <\/a>shooting out\u00a0water. \u00a0As we were enjoying\u00a0watching the cool of the water, the fountain comes to life and more and more\u00a0jets of water started\u00a0shooting up.\u00a0 It was a spectacular performance and so beautiful that I think we took too many shots.\u00a0<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/34969-2\/AJP_1941.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Turkish Hats\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Turkish Hats\" \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">When the fountain show is complete, stroll around and enjoy the\u00a0goods that&#8217;s are on sale, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/SultanAhmet\/AJP_1941.jpg.html\" title=\"Hats\">hats,\u00a0<\/a>clothing and maps.\u00a0 Stalls like this one selling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Turkey\/Istanbul\/SultanAhmet\/AJP_1974.jpg.html\" title=\"Corn Stall\">corn <\/a>is very common.\u00a0 <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">Helen<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sultan Ahmet Square is the central point around which many of Istanbul&#8217;s historical and interesting sites can be found, such as the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Camii), Hagia Sophia), and the underground Basilica Cistern(Yerebatan Sarayi).
