This is a very small local pub and the owner must have been inspired by the musical, however be warned that there&#8217;s nothing New Yorkish about the place.\u00a0 The cheese sandwich and coffee were good though and gave us the necessary energy to carry on with our exploration.\u00a0 Along your promenade, you&#8217;ll also come across bacaris which are the old-fashioned standing-only bars which are frequented by locals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Italy\/Venice\/SanPolo\/IMG_1190.jpg.html\" title=\"Glass-Bead jewellery, Venice\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"5\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/39399-2\/IMG_1190.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"Glass-bead jewellery, Venice\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Glass-bead jewellery, Venice\" \/><\/a>As you wend and weave your way around the back streets, you&#8217;ll never know what will unfold upon you.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Italy\/Venice\/SanPolo\/IMG_1190.jpg.html\" title=\"Glass-Bead jewellery, Venice\"><\/a>We came across this shop selling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Italy\/Venice\/SanPolo\/IMG_1190.jpg.html\" title=\"Glass-bead jewellery, Venice\">Venetian glass-bead jewellery <\/a>and I did some serious buying here.\u00a0 Finding this shop was\u00a0fortunate for me as I was able to take care of much of my gift shopping here, and\u00a0very fortunate for the owner as she had just set up shop this month.\u00a0 She was a very nice lady and as we got chatting she revealed that she was a single mum and\u00a0was keen to create a business for herself.\u00a0 Her very attractive glass-bead necklaces ranged from <font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u20ac15 to 50 and <\/font>made great gifts for friends back home.\u00a0 It&#8217;s great to be able to support nice people like her.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Italy\/Venice\/SanPolo\/IMG_1199.jpg.html\" title=\"Candle-making, Venice\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"5\" align=\"right\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/39419-2\/IMG_1199.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"Candle-making, Venice\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Candle-making, Venice\" \/><\/a>Other shops that caught our attention were the colourful pasta shops.\u00a0 The bags of pasta look more like bags of lollies and it was so tempting to buy some, however the reminder of baggage weight problems very quickly put an end to\u00a0such fleeting folly.\u00a0 The greengrocers had beautiful displays of fruit and vegetables and then there was this\u00a0candle shop full of colorful displays of the owner&#8217;s craft.\u00a0 Although the gaudily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Italy\/Venice\/SanPolo\/IMG_1199.jpg.html\" title=\"Candle-making, Venice\">colored candles <\/a>weren&#8217;t to my taste, it was interesting watching the young man carve and create the colorful strips.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least was the mask shop. \u00a0As it was late, the shop was already closed, otherwise we would have been in there looking to buy one home.<\/p>\n<p>Helen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Rialto Bridge and the nearby markets are a great place to stroll around and also to shop for gifts and souvenirs.\u00a0 In the past, this was the city&#8217;s commercial quarter and it was here that bankers, brokers and merchants carried out their wheeling and dealing in high finance.\u00a0 Nowadays, it&#8217;s the restaurants, food markets [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[51,71],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-246","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-shopping-in-venice","category-venice"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.5 -
