{"id":71,"date":"2007-06-06T23:29:51","date_gmt":"2007-06-06T13:29:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/wordpress\/?p=71"},"modified":"2007-06-06T23:29:51","modified_gmt":"2007-06-06T13:29:51","slug":"nile-river-cruise-valley-of-the-kings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/wordpress\/egypt\/nile-river-cruise\/nile-river-cruise-valley-of-the-kings","title":{"rendered":"Valley of the Kings &#8211; Nile River Cruise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"float: right\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\r\ngoogle_ad_client = \"pub-1009507070974015\";\r\ngoogle_alternate_ad_url = \"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/google_adsense_script.html\";\r\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\r\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\r\ngoogle_ad_format = \"300x250_as\";\r\ngoogle_ad_type = \"text_image\";\r\n\/\/2007-06-30: TSBlog 300x250\r\ngoogle_ad_channel = \"2928184950\";\r\ngoogle_color_border = \"FFFFFF\";\r\ngoogle_color_bg = \"FFFFFF\";\r\ngoogle_color_link = \"FF6600\";\r\ngoogle_color_text = \"000000\";\r\ngoogle_color_url = \"339933\";\r\n\/\/-->\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\r\n  src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\r\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>After our\u00a0trolley train\u00a0deposited us near\u00a0the entrance up to the burial sites, Mohammed gave us a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Egypt\/ValleyKings\/DSC_0670.jpg.html\">historical rundown <\/a>on the various kings and pharoahs who were buried here.\u00a0 Mohammed was an Egyptologist and the more he told us of the history and mythologies, the less we felt we knew of the complicated web of lives and supernatural beings that existed.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Valley was chosen because of its isolation and\u00a0only the kings and their workers could gain access.\u00a0 It was\u00a0hidden by high mountains to conceal the tombs from tomb raiders, however in spite of their hidden locations, every burial chamber was raided except for those of Yuya\u00a0and Tuya, and Tutankhamun&#8217;s which was discovered by Howard Carter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Egypt\/ValleyKings\/IMG_4259.jpg.html\">sitemap <\/a>for the tombs of each of the kings and their heirs.\u00a0 In\u00a0the tomb of Ramses IV, we saw the beautiful picture of the goddess Nut stretched across the blue ceiling.\u00a0 Ramses II was closed and so we went along to Ramses IX and III.\u00a0 Mohammed told the group not to bother about going into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Egypt\/ValleyKings\/DSC_0683.jpg.html\">Tutankhamun&#8217;s tomb <\/a>(I guess he was concerned about time), but a couple of us did and were very glad to have done so.
