In this way the temple\u00a0reflects a\u00a0successful example of architectural harmony between man and nature. The temple is dedicated to Amon and Hathor, Hatshepsut&#8217;s claimed parents.<\/p>\n<p>The columns around the upper terrace were decorated with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Egypt\/Hatshepsut\/DSC_0709.jpg.html\">Osiride statues of Hatshepsut<\/a>, characterized as a male king with a beard.\u00a0 Many of these statues were destroyed by later pharoahs, however several have recently been reconstructed.\u00a0 From the terrace, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Egypt\/Hatshepsut\/DSC_0720.jpg.html\">view of the complex <\/a>was magnificent.\u00a0 Imagine what it would have looked like in its hey day.<\/p>\n<p>As we explored the complex, we came across various temples within the temple.\u00a0 In the Chapel of Anubis, we saw brightly colored murials including one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/v\/Egypt\/Hatshepsut\/IMG_4300.jpg.html\">Tuthmosis III making offerings to the sun god Ra-Harakhty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Queen Hatshepsut ruled for 22 years, which is an amazingly long period by anyone&#8217;s standards.\u00a0 Her temple was destroyed by Ramses II and his successors and was later turned into a Christian monastery.\u00a0 We&#8217;re indeed fortunate that it has since been reconstructed to what\u00a0they\u00a0would have looked during the rein of Tuthmosis III.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Helen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Queen Hatshepsut&#8217;s Temple is an amazing mortuary temple set against a mountainous backdrop.\u00a0 On arrival at the site,\u00a0you are\u00a0faced with an imposing three stepped structure with a central access ramp.\u00a0 It was quite a walk to the temple, and in the mid-day sun walking up the ramp in the scorching heat was a challange for [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-73","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-nile-river-cruise"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.5 -
