If the\u00a0trains feel a little kitsch and touristy at first, you&#8217;ll soon learn to appreciate having them available as the walk into the city is not a small one.\u00a0 They are also very practical for the river cruises as you couldn&#8217;t get coaches along\u00a0the river banks.\u00a0 <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"left\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Destination\/d\/13063-2\/IMG_5431.jpg?resize=110%2C85\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"Mini-trains\" height=\"85\" style=\"width: 110px; height: 85px\" title=\"Mini-trains\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were given time to visit the inside of the cathedral on our own, about 45 minutes, before a guided tour around the city. The time given to roam was limited and on the whole we felt our time in Cologne was quite rushed.\u00a0 There is a reason for this though.\u00a0\u00a0All river\u00a0boats have to stick to schedules for the locks which are booked months ahead and there&#8217;s not the ability to swap and change times.\u00a0 The cruise operators try and fit in as much as possible which benefits people like us who are keen to experience and see as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>We were split up in groups and assigned local tour guides to take us around.\u00a0 At the Old Market Square, look out for the sculpture of a man in a squatting position with his backside exposed.
