A relatively new and different coffee shop on Blumenstockgasse 5 is <strong>Caf\u00e9 Neko<\/strong>, the first ever <strong>&#8216;cat cafe&#8217;<\/strong> in Europe.<\/p>\n<h4>Vienna&#8217;s Cat Caf\u00e9<\/h4>\n<p>As we turned into Blumenstockgasse on our <strong>walking tour of Vienna<\/strong>, our local guide pointed to Neko Caf\u00e9 and casually mentioned that the caf\u00e9 is cat-friendly. She walked off, with the group trailing behind her, but as cat lovers, we couldn&#8217;t resist ducking into the caf\u00e9 to see the cats. As the adults enjoyed their relaxing cup of coffee and snacks, this little customer preferred to spend time under the table with the sleepy cat.<\/p>\n<div class=\"adLargerect\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:inline-block;width:300px;height:250px\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1009507070974015\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"7417206609\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Vienna&#8217;s Caf\u00e9 Neko was the creation of Takako Ishimitsu who hails from Japan where cat caf\u00e9s are popular.\u00a0 There are some 40 cat caf\u00e9s in Tokyo alone and some of them even feature specific categories of cats, such as a caf\u00e9 for black cats, stray cats, fat cats, etc. Pets are not permitted in Japanese apartments and as such cat caf\u00e9s are popular with people seeking interaction with animals or workers wanting to de-stress after work.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Ishimitsu wanted to create an environment where people who could not have their own pets could come into the caf\u00e9 to enjoy the companionship of her cats. It took her three years to negotiate with the Viennese city officials over hygiene issues. Roaming in Caf\u00e9 Neko are Moritz, Luca, Momo, Sonia and Thomas, five cats that she rescued from animal shelters.<\/p>\n<p>Since the opening of Caf\u00e9 Neko in Vienna, other cat caf\u00e9s have sprung up in Budapest and Munich-Schwabing, and with cat caf\u00e9s soon to open in London and Paris.<\/p>\n<h4>Caf\u00e9 Neko Menu<\/h4>\n<p>At Caf\u00e9 Neko you can have anything from espresso to hot chocolate, and a range of teas, including Japanese green tea.\u00a0 Your cappuccino froth comes with a cat face on it.\u00a0 Snacks served can be anything from homemade Austrian cakes to creme caramel and sushi with smoked salmon.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a cat-lover, check out Caf\u00e9 Neko and enjoy the companionship of Neko&#8217;s feline residents.\u00a0 The caf\u00e9 is open Monday to Sunday from 10:00 &#8211; 20:00.
