The twenty-two different fillings range from <em>speck mit ei<\/em> (bacon with egg), <em>salami<\/em> and\u00a0<em>geflugelleber<\/em> (chicken liver) to <em>krabben mit ei<\/em> (crab with egg), <em>matjes mit zwiebel<\/em> (white herring with onions) and so on. \u00a0They also have a range of\u00a0vegetarian options such as <em>champignon<\/em> (mushroom), <em>gurke mit ei<\/em> (cucumber with egg),<em> karotte und gervais<\/em> (carrot with cream cheese), etc. \u00a0To wash down your food, you can have the traditional <em>Pfiff<\/em> &#8211; this is the smallest mug of beer that Tony has ever seen, wine or soft drinks.<\/p>\n<p>It was lunch-time and many locals came in for a quick bite. There are usually some bar round tables outside as well as some seats inside.\u00a0 When it&#8217;s busy and there aren&#8217;t any free seats, customers just stand at the little bar tables and eat their food.\u00a0 As it was raining, the outside area was not used during our visit.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1292\" style=\"width: 598px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/destination\/Austria\/Vienna\/Vienna-walking-tour\/trzesniewski_HLP6329\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1292\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1292\" alt=\"Trzesniewski Vienna\" src=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Austria\/files\/2013\/08\/Trzesniewski-Sandwiches-_HLP6329.jpg\" width=\"588\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Austria\/files\/2013\/08\/Trzesniewski-Sandwiches-_HLP6329.jpg 588w, https:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Austria\/files\/2013\/08\/Trzesniewski-Sandwiches-_HLP6329-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Austria\/files\/2013\/08\/Trzesniewski-Sandwiches-_HLP6329-185x125.jpg 185w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tony with his Pfiff of beer<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>Ordering Sandwiches at Trzesniewski<\/h4>\n<p>At Trzesniewski, you can choose from a range of sandwich fillings and the finger sandwich costs \u20ac1.10 each.\u00a0 When they are very busy, don&#8217;t expect them to take time to explain what the fillings are &#8211; and I suspect the women behind the counter don&#8217;t speak English.\u00a0 The little pictures in the sandwich bar tell you what the toppings are in German and they do have a sandwich list that explains what the English equivalent is. \u00a0We didn&#8217;t do the ordering, but I believe you pay the cashier for your sandwiches and drink and you&#8217;ll be given a token which you then exchange for your drink at the bar counter. \u00a0The place was busy at lunch-time, but the service was very efficient.<\/p>\n<p>Trzesniewski has been around for over 100 years and is a local institution, but we&#8217;ve only discovered it on this trip, thanks to our local guide. There are several Trzesniewski bars in Vienna, but if you are in the Stephanplatz area, the Dorotheergasse cafe is the closest.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t fancy a heavy Schnitzel or Tafelspitz for breakfast or lunch, Trzesniewski is a fun place for a light snack. \u00a0The finger sandwiches are quite cheap, it&#8217;s a local eating experience and\u00a0the interesting concept of finger sandwiches\u00a0lets you try a range of sandwich fillings.  And if you want to experience a typical and famous Viennese coffee house, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelsignposts.com\/Austria\/food\/cafe-hawelka-vienna-cafe\" title=\"Cafe Hawelka, Vienna coffee house\" target=\"_blank\">Caf\u00e9 Hawelka<\/a> is a few doors away at Dorotheergasse 6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opening Times:<\/strong><br \/>\nMon &#8211;
