Globe Museum \u00a9 Globenmuseum \/ \u00d6sterreichische Nationalbibliothek<\/p><\/div>Vienna’s Globe Museum<\/strong> (Globen Museum<\/em> in German) is the only one of its kind in the world.\u00a0 Administered by the Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek<\/strong> (Austrian National Library), the Globe Museum is housed in the Palais Mollard<\/strong>, a beautifully restored palace in the first district, just a short walk from the Hofburg.<\/p>\n

Exhibits in the Globe Museum<\/h4>\n

For globe connoisseurs, Vienna’s Globe Museum is home to 240 exquisite period terrestrial and celestial globes showing the earth, planets, moon and other heavenly bodies. The exhibits illustrate how advances in cartography and cosmography shaped the way that people saw the world, both figuratively and literally.\u00a0 A separate department of studies holds a further 350 globes.<\/p>\n

The Collectors’ Cabinet<\/strong> presents various permanent loan pieces from Viennese private collections, including the oldest globe in Austria, a terrestrial model made by Gemma Frisius (ca. 1536).<\/p>\n
