Vienna Cafés and Coffee Shops:

Vienna has many famous and grand cafés and coffee houses like the Café Residenz, Café Hofburg, Grand Café, Café Demel and Café Landtmann which are fit for royalty and those who like a bit of pampering.

But for the coffee enthusiast who is looking for interesting coffee houses and some of-the-beaten-track coffee experiences, Vienna has just as many coffee houses that are full of character and atmosphere.  What’s more, Vienna is a city where many coffee roasters promise to cast a spell over visitors with their coffee aromas.

The following list of cafés and coffee shops and coffee roasters may be worth exploring.

VIENNA CAFES AND COFFEE SHOPS AND COFFEE ROASTERS
Cafe Engländer
Postgasse 2, 1010 Vienna
www.cafe-englaender.com
This cafe enjoys good reviews from gourmet guides which rate it as one of the best coffee houses in Vienna. It has great atmosphere and its restaurant serves fine food and it is also a popular hangout for newspaper readers, night owls and non-conformists.
Cafe Korb
Brandstääte 7-9, 1010 Vienna
www.cafekorb.at
Vienna Coffee House

Vienna Coffee House

This eatery has been described as “plain, with somewhat worn 1960s interior.  It has none of the grandeur of Demel or Hotel Sacher, or
the old Viennese charm of Cafe Diglas.” But what it lacks in grandeur and charm, it more than makes up with its knockout warm apple strudel, one of Austria’s most famous pastries.

The current owner Suzanne Widl was an actress, artist, art collector and quite a personality in Austria.

Cafe Bräunerhof
Stallburggasse 2
www.braeunerhof.at
Café Bräunerhof is a classic and traditional Viennese coffee house which lies in the heart of the Old City antiques district between the Imperial Palace and Graben.  They sometimes have life music performances here.  Unfortunately their website is still being redesigned.
Cafe Drechsler
Line Wienzeile 22, 1060 Vienna
www.cafedrechsler.at
The original Cafe Drechsler began in 1919 but it was re-modelled to its present 21st century stylish design in 2007 by Sir Terence Conran.  Lively place opposite the Naschmarkt and they offer takeaway coffee.  Austrian and International papers and WLAN available here.
Kleines Café
Franziskanerplatz 3
1st district, off Kärntnerstrasse (a big shopping street).
This tiny cafe is owned by an Viennese actor and exudes a Bohemian atmosphere.  It has a splendid outside seating area in summer. A perfect off-the-beaten-track location!
Kaffeerösterei Alt Wien Kaffee
Schleifmühlgasse 23, 1040 Vienna
www.altwien.at
This coffee roaster next to the famous Naschmarkt promises “to cast a spell on every visitor” with its coffee aroma.  Coffee is roasted here daily and they serve 14 types of coffee, including organic blends.
Kaffeefabrik
Favoritenstrasse 4-6, 1040 Vienna
www.kaffeefabrik.at/
The people at Kaffeefabrik believe that coffee taste is an individual thing and so there are various methods of preparation.  You can buy a range of different coffee blends from them.
The Roast
Augasse 21, 1090 Vienna
www.the-roast.com
Visitors can watch how their aromatic coffee is roasted here.
Naber Kaffee
Wipplingerstraße 25, 1010 Vienna
Wiedner Hauptstraße 40, 1040 Vienna
www.naberkaffee.com
The Nabers are a fourth generation coffee roasting business and they have been roasting coffee since 1908.  They also operate two espresso bars with an attractive 1950s design.  Visitors can buy packaged varieties of their coffee as well as enjoy a fresh cup of coffee here.

      Arief,

We are a travel website, not a coffee shop. You’ll have to contact the various coffee shops individually.

      Regards,
      Helen Page
