Who am I?
My name is Almis Simans, I'm a keen walker - I've journeyed along many of the historic trails in Europe - and have written four books covering the Camino de Santiago in Spain, the Coast to Coast Walk in England, the Milford Track in New Zealand, and Historic Walks around Sydney, Australia.
Apart from the Cotswold Way, other walks I've done include the Offa's Dyke Path in Wales, sections of the Via Francigena in Italy, the Way of St James (Le Puy to Conques) in France and the West Highland Way in Scotland.
I teach a number of travel and history courses at Sydney University’s Centre for Continuing Education and recently have led some special interest walking groups in Europe.
Above all, because I remember the difficulties I experienced when I started out walking, I'm interested in making walking journeys more accessible to more people, especially to those who want to try, but haven’t yet ventured out upon, a longer journey.
