Christmas in Europe – London
After 30+ hours on the road, we arrived at the Mostyn Hotel exhausted and cold. We were very pleased that the Mostyn turned out to be just opposite the Thistle Marble Arch from where we were to join the tour the next morning at 5:15 a.m.! Starting anything at 5:15 in the morning is a big ask for us, but at least on this occasion we could just tumble across the road. When we opened the door to our room, we had our second pleasant surprise. Room 109 was a great suite set on two levels, with the living room downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. The rack rate was GBP300 per night and for the GBP64 I paid, this was my greatest hotel find ever.
Tired as we were, we made the effort to walk the length of Oxford Street to see the Christmas lights. I didn’t think the street lights were that great, but a few of the large department stores were amazingly lit up.
