Munich Opera Festival – Free "Opera for All"

In conjunction with the Munich Opera Festival, the Bayerische Staatsoper (Bavarian State Opera) is performing two free opera concerts in the relaxed atmosphere of the Max-Joseph-Platz. Admission to both events is free!

On Saturday, June 26, the Bavarian State Orchestra performs a Festival Concert under the musical direction of Kent Nagano. Besides Claude Debussy’s symphonic poem La mer, Richard Strauss’ Alpine Symphony will be performed. As in the previous two years, ATTACA, the Bayerische Staatsoper youth orchestra will be sharing the program. The young musicians will open the Festival concert, this time with Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune.

On Saturday, July 10, the new production of Puccini’s Tosca will be transmitted live to Max-Joseph-Platz. This third performance of the Tosca, like the 2010 Festival opening night, features an all-star cast. With Karita Mattila as Floria Tosca and Jonas Kaufmann as Mario Cavaradossi, two of today’s most sought-after artists world-wide will be singing the leading roles. On the podium: Fabio Luisi.

However, if you’re not in Munich during the Opera Festival, there are numerous other concerts and operas that you can enjoy in many grand Munich venues such as castles, churches and theatres.  See what’s on and you can book your concert tickets online here.
