Frédéric Chopin: 200th Anniversary Celebrations

March 1st, 2010 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frédéric François Chopin. Chopin was one of Poland’s (and the world’s) great composers and in honour of his artistic contribution for the Polish nation, the Polish Parliament have declared 2010 as the Year of Fryderyk Chopin.

Visitors to Poland will be left in no doubt that this is Chopin country when they land at the Frederyk Chopin Airport in Warsaw. There will be plenty of Chopin-themed tourist events and visitors will be able to follow in the footsteps of Chopin and discover places that were connected with this great composer. Warsaw’s new Chopin Museum is also due to open on March 1st.

But the music and commemoration of Chopin is not limited to Poland only. All around the world, there will be a programme of events to celebrate this 200th birthday anniversary, including the Canadian Chopin Festival, Chopin recitals at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, International Piano Series in London, just to mention a few.

For lovers of Chopin’s famous piano music and classical music in general, this is the year to join in the celebration of this great composer’s works.
