When to travel to Denmark: weather and seasonsWeather in DenmarkDenmark has a temperate climate with no extremes of heat or cold, the mildness of which is largely conditioned by the generally westerly winds and by the fact that the country is virtually encircled by water. The climate is influenced by Denmark's position between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Its marine west coast climate is typical for its location in Europe, keeping the weather mild, with the North Atlantic Drift, part of the Gulf Stream, providing a warming influence. Many jokes are told about the Danish climate. This is because although Denmark has a mild climate its weather is very changeable, due to its position in the temperate zone where air masses from the Atlantic, the Arctic, and eastern Europe come together. The truth is, however, that the Danish weather is neither worse nor better than in any other Northern European country. Denmark's climate is really quite mild for its northern latitude, but it is often windy and can rain with little warning. Be prepared for variable conditions and remember to dress for cold and wet weather in the winter and spring. Winter temperatures hover at freezing point, particularly in January and February. Summers are mild, featuring episodes of cloudy weather interrupted by sunny days. Denmark's mean temperature in February, the coldest month, is 0°C (32°F), and in July, the warmest, 17°C (63°F). The country's tourist life tends to come alive in April, when the weather begins to warm up and the daylight hours increase. The summer is the best time to visit; from May to August, there are quite a lot of beautiful sunny days, daylight hours are longest and temperatures average 25C (77F). The latter part of August is also a great time since the weather is still warm and most of the crowds have gone home. Around October it gets colder, and January is usually the coldest month with an average temperature of 0 C. Winter temperatures hover at freezing point, particularly in January and February, but Denmark's climate is mild compared to other countries at a similar latitude.
