A high point of the baroque monastery is the Abbey church

After 1701, at Abbot Berthold Dietmayr’s instigation, a complete reconstruction of the church took place

Antonio Beduzzi was responsible for the sketches for the frescoes

Books are categorized under four main faculties: Theology, Philosophy, Medicine and Jurisprudence

Giuseppe Galli-Bibiena designed the pulpit and high altar

It was the wishes of the abbot and monastic community to have a grand Abbey to reflect it's religious purpose

Johann Michael Rottmayr did the frescoes & altar paintings

Library books mainly comprise historical works from the 19th c. onwards, which testify to the interests of this time period

Melk Benedictine Abbey

Originally only a Baroquization of the abbey church was planned

Paul Troger was the artist responsible for the altar paintings

The Abbey was contructed following plans by Jakob Prandtauer

The artistic, valuable decoration shows the high regard the monks had for their library.

The artists chosen for the decoration of the church were prominent masters in their fields
