Franz Liszt – 200th Birthday Anniversary Events in Bayreuth

Franz Liszt was laid to rest in the town cemetery in Bayreuth on 3 August 1886.  But in 2011, Bayreuth is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of this famous composer, phenomenal pianist, conductor and visionary in the grandest of fashion.  Bayreuth is going for Liszt in 2011 with 150 events under the theme ‘Desire for Liszt’.

After months of intensive preparations for the 200th anniversary celebration of the birth of composer and piano virtuoso Franz Liszt, bookings are now open for well over twenty ‘Desire for Liszt’ events. Tickets have been released for concerts featuring Thomas Hampson, Hélène Grimaud, Christian Thielemann and Alice Sara Ott, and for the grand ceremony with Adam Fischer.

Tickets are also being released for almost all of the concerts put on by the city of Bayreuth – including several piano evenings starring international artists, the Israel Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Roberto Paternostro and the Kutrowatz Piano Duo. Booking is also now open for the new production of Liszt’s only opera ‘Don Sanche’.

More detailed information for the upcoming anniversary events between January and April, the supporting program and travel offers from Bayreuth Marketing & Tourismus can be found in the current Liszt program brochure which runs to over 20 pages.

As so many events are scheduled throughout the Liszt anniversary year, the full program is being published in three stages.  The second program brochure – focusing on spring and summer events – will be available in the middle of April.
