It's important to check that the restaurant at which you're interested in eating is open! Restaurants in Venice do not all close on a Monday, rest days vary, and not all open at night. Booking is highly advisable, especially when you want an outside table. And not all restaurants (especially the smaller ones) take credit cards.

A family restaurant for around 100 years. Menu is almost exclusively fish. Must book for few outside (and desirable) tables. No credit cards.

L'Arte del Pane

The best bread and grissini (breadsticks) in the city. Pick up a sandwich or roll freshly cut and stuffed with the filling of your choice, with Venetian cookies for dessert.

Cip's Club
Fondamenta de le Zitelle 10, Giudecca
Take the Hotel Cipriani's complimentary private launch from San Marco. Ambience is casual clubby, Venetian-nautical, with a menu of local classics, seasonal specialties, and some of the best pizza in Venice. Not cheap but a great view!

Specialty — Torta Tita, a cake of custard and chocolate-hazelnut gelato with crispy meringue in its centre.
