Bulgaria, a travel destination

Bulgaria is not a country that immediately comes to mind as a travel destination, at least not for travellers who do not live in the European zone.  Yet, this country has so much to offer tourists that it’s a matter of time before it becomes part of mainstream  European tour routes.

Since its breakaway from the communist Eastern Bloc, Bulgaria has made great speed in assimilating itself with the European community by firstly becoming a member of NATO in 2004 and then as a member of the European Union in 2007.

With history tracing back to the 1st millenium B.C. and landmarks that are so unique that several of them have become UNESCO listed, Bulgaria has lots to offer history buffs as well as tourists interested in sightseeing.  The availability of summer and winter sports and activities also make this a destination for all seasons.
