Antalya is located on the south-western Mediterranean coastline of Turkey and as such enjoys a Mediterranean climate characterised by hot summers and moderately warm and rainy winters.
Antalya is sheltered from the northerly winds by the Taurus Mountains and enjoys around 300 days of sunshine in the year and over 3,000 hours of sunlight.
Temperatures in Antalya
The Mediterranean region, up to an altitude of 800m inland, is characterized by the Mediterranean climate. In this climate summers are hot and arid while winters are mild and rainy, when the coastal towns more or less quieten down between November and March.
In summer the average temperature is between 28-36°C. The sea temperature in summer is about 28°C (82°F) and the air temperature reaches a record high of 45°C (113°F) in July.
In winter the sea temperature is about 15°C (59°F) and the air temperature reaches a record low of -4°C (25 °F) in February.
Around April is one of the best times to visit the city, when it is warm enough to suntan and the heat is not as oppressive as during the height of the summer months. If you are planning on doing one of those week-long gulet cruises, they generally operate between May to October.
