Dinner with a View:

Strata Italian Restaurant

Dinner at the Strada, London

It’s always tricky knowing where to go for meals when you’re travelling.   So, when our friends Neil and Linda suggested that it’s nice having dinner at the Strada restaurant where you can have a beautiful night view of the Tower Bridge and the River Thames, we were thankful for their suggestion.  We walked past the restaurant during the day, but didn’t think of its night-time potential.

Our Strada Experience

The Strada is a chain Italian restaurant group with over 70 restaurants throughout the UK.  For your casual dining, you can get the usual antipasto, fish, risotto, pizzas, pasta and meat dishes.

I told the waitress that I like my pasta al dente and she assures me that their pastas are usually cooked al dente, but nevertheless she will remind the chef.  When it arrives, it is far from al dente.  And, a mix-up in the kitchen causes Linda’s main meal to be delayed.  It seems that no amount of chasing the waiter made any difference and Linda finally gets her food when the rest of us are almost through with our meals.

Amongst the four of us, we try the pizza, the pasta,  saltimbocca,  polenta with mushrooms and some prawns.  The food is what you would expect from chain restaurants – tasty, but not quite hitting the spot!

Tower Bridge and River Thames View

Dining out in London

Garlic Prawns at the Strada, London

Whilst the food falls short of  being rave-worthy and service tonight is an issue, the view of the Tower Bridge and the River Thames from this London restaurant is breathtaking, especially with the full moon hovering over one of the towers.  London’s Tower Bridge is a popular sightseeing attraction and we’ve seen it many times and have taken many shots of it from land and the River Thames, but the night-time view adds a new perspective.

The Riverside area has gone through quite stunning developments since we last visited and the Strada is a nice place for visitors to have a relaxed dinner with a view, without breaking the bank.   Not all tables have views of the Tower Bridge so when making your booking, remember to ask for a table with a view.

It is easy to think that some pasta, some marinara sauce, a crust of Italian bread and a glass of wine is the beginning and end of Italian cuisine, especially if you grew up in the United States. When an American conjures up an idea of “Italian cuisine,” often what comes to mind is pasta, red sauce, and garlic bread. There is much more than red sauce and starch on the agenda for most Italian regional cuisines
