London City Airport is the Closest of the Five London Airports to the Centre of London:

Airport Transfers - London City Airport

Of the five London airports, London City Airport (LCY) is the smallest but the nearest to the centre of London and its attractions.  Located in East  London, City Airport is less than a mile from ExCel, London’s premier events venue, two miles from the 2012 Olympic Games site and three miles from Canary Wharf.

A Business Airport in London

Located just 6 miles (9 km) from the London financial district, London City Airport bills itself as the leading business airport. Its departure lounge was designed with the business traveller in mind – free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal area and numerous laptop plug-in points allow business travellers to continue working while waiting for their flight. And, the airport has a ‘silent departure lounge policy’, i.e. no annoying announcements or boarding calls.

British Airways, Swissair and KLM are some of the dozen international and regional airlines that serve approximately 30 British and European destinations.  Although City Airport’s main users are business travellers, increasingly more leisure travellers are using this London Airport.  For holiday destinations like Avignon, Faro or Florence, it certainly is more convenient to use City Airport than going to Heathrow or Gatwick from the centre of London.

LCY Airport is also very busy during the winter months when a number of airlines fly holidaymakers to ski resorts in Zurich, Geneva, Milan and elsewhere.
