More than a Station
St Pancras is more than a train station and even if you’re not travelling on the Eurostar to Paris, Brussels or Lille, it is worthwhile making a trip to St Pancras to explore this very modern station.
St Pancras is a regular venue for live music (Station Sessions) and events such as performing arts, charity do’s and celebrity appearances. The restaurants at St Pancras also hold their own events such as the weekly jazz brunch at the St Pancras Grand or champagne tasting at the Besserat Tasting Lounge. But if you’re not looking to splurge on a big meal here, there are plenty of coffee houses and food outlets where you can enjoy a light snack, without breaking the bank. In fact the number of food outlets is quite impressive.
For the shopaholic, there is a range of High Street names, some boutiques, gift and book shops, as well as food outlets to browse around.
On the upper concourse, there are a couple of sculptures that are noteworthy:
Sir John Betjeman – a poet, writer and broadcaster, was instrumental in saving St Pancras from demolition in the 1960’s. He was fond of Victorian architecture.
The Meeting Place – is a 9-metre high bronze sculpture by Paul Day, a famous sculptor
