Hamburg Airport Transfers – Getting to and from Hamburg Airport:

Hamburg Airport (HAM)

Hamburg Airport (HAM) opened in January 1911, making it the oldest airports in the world that is still in operation from its original site. There are two terminals at Hamburg Airport with Terminal 2 mainly used by Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partner airlines and other airlines based in Terminal 1. The Airport Plaza, sandwiched between the two terminals, houses the security clearance area, shops, restaurants and other airport facilities and the S-Bahn station.

Airlines and Destinations

With more than 170,000 aircraft movements and over 12 million passengers per year, Hamburg Airport is served by most German and major foreign airlines. See the following links for the list of airlines with flights to Hamburg and the Hamburg Airport route network:

Hamburg Airport is located approximately 8 km north of Hamburg city and there is good ground transportation connecting the airport to various parts of the city as well as to neighbouring regions.

By Train

The  S-Bahn (suburban rail network) line S1 connects passengers to the centre of Hamburg.  The S1 operates every 10 minutes between Hamburg Airport and Hamburg central railway station ( Hauptbahnhof). Journey time is approximately 25 minutes. The  Hamburg Airport (Flughafen) S-Bahn station is connected to the terminals and is easily reached by lift, escalator or stairs.

By Bus

Hamburg Airport is served by HVV buses – the Hamburg public transit network. The buses stop directly in front of the Terminals.  See here for list of buses numbers and bus routes >

The airport is also linked by coach services to nearby cities like Kiel, Neumünster and Lübeck.

By Taxi

The taxi stands are outside the exits of Terminal 1 and 2 in the arrival areas.

Rental Cars

Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Terstappen are based at T2.

By Car

There are over 10,000 parking spaces at Hamburg Airport.  Hamburg Airport has state-of-the-art parking guidance system which helps motorists to find a parking space at the Airport. As you approach the Airport, the automated VMS signs guides you to the nearest free parking spaces. You can choose from on-airport car parks P1 to P5, which are adjacent to the terminals, or the off-airport car parks P8 and P9 at “Weg beim Jäger”. Simply follow the signs and you will be guided to the nearest free space. From P8 and P9 a free shuttle bus is provided to and from the terminals between 3.45am and 12 midnight, frequency of shuttle is every 10 minutes.
