Christmas is a special time in Berlin and music is very much a part of this city’s Christmas celebrations.

If you’re spending Christmas in Berlin, you too can enjoy one of the many Christmas concerts in the city.  Whether it be traditional Christmas music, classical concerts, choir concert, brass band or religious music, there is an impressive array of Berlin Christmas concerts to choose from, including Cuban, Gospel and Russian Christmas music.

Famous Berlin Attractions

Many of these Christmas concerts are held at venues which are themselves famous Berlin attractions such as the Schloss Charlottenburg, Berliner Dom, Französischer Dom am Gendarmenmarkt, etc.

Most of these concerts are one-performance only events and popular concerts will sell quickly, so book early if you don’t want to miss out.

Nov. 29 – Dec. 28Apostel Paulus Kirche: Harlem Gospel Night with Donna Brown & the Golden Gospel Pearls
The famous Golden Gospel Pearls are back in Berlin with their soulful voices and Christmas medleys. They brought the gospel to Berlin in the early 90s and have remained faithful to the city and church ever since. Enjoy their interpretations of ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Mary Had a Baby’, ‘Come and Adore Him’ and other medleys which are sure put you in a joyful Christmas mood.

French Cathedral: Christmas with Original Bolschoi Don Kosaken
The coveted male choir of the ‘Bolshoi Don Cossacks’ brings a piece of Russian history to Berlin at Advent. The trained opera soloists overwhelm every year with their vocal power and present the musical tradition of the Don Cossacks. Their repertoire consists of sacred songs, Cossack, Russian and Ukrainian folk songs.
French Cathedral: Lyambiko – My Favourite Christmas Songs
Returning to the French Cathedral is Germany’s most successful jazz singer, Lyambiko. She compiled her favourite Christmas hits into a tasteful acoustic programme that she brought to the stage of the French Cathedral for the first time in December 2018. Enjoy a delicious dinner at the Restaurant Gendarmerie before the concert or you can also book for the concert without dinner.

Take a step off the beaten path in Berlin, and indulge in a musical interlude at Köpenick Palace. Philharmonie Berlin: London Brass Christmas Music
Get in the mood with Festive Christmas brass music in the stunning Philharmonie Berlin.
The London Brass will perform works by Antonio Vivaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, John Rutter, Johann Sebastian Bach and others as well as traditional German and international Christmas songs.

December 8Universität der Künste: Christmas with Berliner Kinderchor
Nothing is as beautiful and immovable at Christmas as the joy of children at the great festival. This year for the second time the Berlin Children’s Choir invites children to the concert hall of the Universität der Künste, where the unbroken joy of Christmas can be felt by the youngest Berlin singers.

As Christmas approaches, Berlin’s historic churches and castles resound with festive music. Celebrate the season with a classical concert in the Gothic Hall of the Spandau Citadel.
Dec.5, 7 & 8Berliner Dom: Bach Christmas Oratorio I-III
Bach’s Christmas Oratorio cantatas I-III is one of the most performed seasonal works. Berlin Cathedral Music Director Tobias Brommann leads this performance of Bach’s magnificent Christmas Oratorio.
Berliner Dom: The Holy Family’s Escape
Kai-Uwe Jirka leads the Staats- und Domchor Berlin in a performance of works by Loewe, Berlioz, Bruch, Becker and Tchemberdji at the Berliner Dom.

Marienkirche Berlin: Festive Concert for Organ and Trumpet
The famous duo Eisenberg and Schmahl perform Christmas pieces by Bach, Schubert and César Franck, among others, in St. Mary’s Church.
Prof. Matthias Eisenberg is regarded as one of the best organists in Germany. Together with his colleague Daniel Schmahl, a virtuoso on trumpet, flugelhorn and piccolo horn, the duo perform an exciting mixture of festive Christmas music.

The Comedian Harmonists find each other again! The Solistenensemble Berlin Singsmen leads you into a musical Christmas dream. Moderated by the Dutch actor and presenter Paul Hörmann, you will experience the unforgettable hits of the Comedian Harmonists and the most beautiful Christmas songs.
December 16Berliner Dom: Advent mit Bach!
Hear the beautiful sound of the historic Sauerogel in works by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The richly decorated interior of the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) includes a magnificent Sauer organ, which was built at the same time as the cathedral, in 1905. Today, the Sauer organ is the largest existing organ of the Late Romantic period.

December 16Apostel Paulus Kirche: Johannischer Chor Berlin Weihnachtliche Weisen
The singers of the Johannischer Chor Berlin will perform their festive Christmas concert on the stage of the Apostel-Paulus-Kirche in Berlin-Schöneberg for the ninth time. The mixed choir is designed and directed by Jens Lehmann. With 50 members of all ages and accompanied by a rich instrument set, festive songs from the most diverse European cultures are sung and played.
Dec. 16Berliner Dom: Lucia, the Swedish Queen of Light
The Stockholms Musikgymnasiums Kammarkör performs traditional Swedish and German Christmas Carols.
