For the Best Afternoon Tea in London, You Can’t Go Past the Tea Guild’s Award:

Afternoon Tea at the Palm Court / Visit Britain

In today’s high-speed society, taking afternoon tea, in the tradition that it used to be enjoyed in the 19th century, is a luxury that few people can afford.  Gone are the days when according to a Noel Coward song “… everything stops for tea”.  And when we do take the traditional afternoon tea at one of the fine tea houses or restaurants, it’s usually as a treat or for a special occasion.

Luckily, there are plenty of first class hotels and restaurants in Britain where serving afternoon tea is still kept to a fine art. And to illustrate how serious the afternoon tea business is, the UK Tea Guild has an annual award for the best afternoon tea in Britain, much like the OSCARS in the tea world!

Best Afternoon Tea in London

For 2010, the ‘OSCAR’ award for the Best London Afternoon Tea in London went to the Palm Court at The Langham Hotel. Fifteen other London tearooms were also given Awards of Excellence by the Tea Guild. These are:

  • Brown’s Hotel
  • Claridge’s
  • Grosvenor House Park Room & Library
  • Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park
  • Tea at Liberty
  • The Athenaeum
  • The Dorchester
  • The Goring
  • The Landmark London
  • The Lanesborough
  • The Milestone
  • The Montagu at Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill
  • The Park Lane Hotel
  • The Ritz, Sofitel London St James
  • The Wolseley.

If you’re seeking to experience afternoon tea in the elegance and grandeur of a bygone era and want to be treated to the finest of afternoon teas you can’t go wrong with the Tea Guild’s best afternoon tea winners.
