A Highly Rated Restaurant in the Heart of Historic Genoa:

Da Leccarsi typical Genovese restaurant

Finding a good restaurant that’s open on a Monday night can be tricky in most cities and that’s been our experience in Genoa. We stumbled upon Da Leccarsi i Baffi a few years ago and as luck would have it, this highly rated restaurant was one of the few opened tonight.

Typical Genovese Cuisine

Da Leccarsi i Baffi is a Genovese trattoria serving typical Ligurian cuisine. It has a high number of positive reviews and we were lucky to be able to get a table tonight. The restaurant is run by husband and wife team Andrea and Vanessa.

Andrea made us very welcome and helped us with our order. His pint-size wife is the genius in the kitchen. She and her team in the kitchen keep customers happy with their superb cooking. As I sat opposite the kitchen window, I enjoyed watching the professional team at work.

Wall Decoration

The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a cosy atmosphere. The table mat has a recipe titled “Recipe for Folly”, but it’s actually quite a nice happiness recipe.

The serving staff were very attentive. In spite of being very busy, they were always on alert as to when you’re ready for your next course or the dishes came out of the kitchen window.

What we Ate

Tony had the mixed seafood starter. This comprised of a couple of styles of anchovy,

a salted cod frittata and a very nicely done swordfish carpaccio which was quite an exquisite taste. I had a serving of vegetable fritters for starter.

One of the specials of the evening was porcini as the season for this mushroom had just started. We both love porcini and couldn’t resist ordering the same dish.

Porcini fritti

Andrea said that it was a good choice and indicated that it was a delicious. The mistake that we made was that we didn’t realise that the word “fritti” referred to the mushroom as fried potatoes were included with this dish. Although the porcini was fried in a light batter, we thought that the taste of the fried batter overpowered the delicate flavour of porcini. We were a little disappointed, but it was our own fault.

Well-run Restaurant

Leccarsi i Baffi is a very well-run restaurant and we would certainly be happy to dine here again.

If you’re not familiar with Genoa, this trattoria is a little hidden away in Piazza Cavour 91r, at the far corner of the Genoa port area.
