La Tana del Polpo is a Popular Seafood Restaurant in Bari:

La Tana Grilled Prawns

La Tana del Polpo was one of the restaurants that we walked past on our Bari walking tour. Guisseppe, our Free Walking Tour guide, said that it is a popular seafood restaurant and it could be difficult to get a table.

We peaked into the doorway to see this giant octopus on the ceiling. As Bari is famous for its seafood, we earmarked La Tana del Polpo as one of the restaurants to try out.

Busy even on a Monday night

We arrived at the restaurant at 8 pm on a Monday evening to find that it was full. One of the owners said that if we came back at 8:30 pm he would have a table for us. We got back at 8:30 and had to wait another 10 minutes for a table to become available, but it was worth the wait.

The Lair of the Octopus

Although La Tana del Polpo’s plates and decorations have an octopus theme, they do serve all kinds of seafood.

We saw trays of fresh fish being brought to tables so customers could choose their fish. We decided to try different dishes. I had the insalata di polpo as a starter and Tony had a baked cheese dish. Next we shared the squid ink orecchiette with tuna and capers followed by grilled prawns and salad.

Tony sensed there was something watching over him.

Throughout the meal Tony had the uncomfortable feeling that something was watching over him. Of course, La Tana del Polpo is the Lair of the Octopus.

The food was very nice and I probably ate too much. La Tana del Polpo has a sister restaurant next door that serves fast food, like seafood burgers, fried calamari, etc. It was very busy during the day.
