How to Get to Sorrento by Bus, Boat, Train and Plane:

Sorrento Marina Piccola

Arriving in Sorrento by Boat

Sorrento is in the Campania region in southern Italy, about 210 km south of Rome. With its cliff-top resorts and luxury hotels, this small tourist town is a good base from which to explore the Amalfi Coast, Capri and the ancient city of Pompeii.

How to Get to Sorrento

By Train

Trenitalia connects travellers from various Italian cities to Napoli Centrale (Naples main station) and from there the Circumvesuviana train service connects Naples with Sorrento. Service frequency is 30 minutes and travel time from Napoli Centrale to Sorrento is about 80 minutes. The Circumvesuviana train station is conveniently located on a lower level of the Trenitalia train station building in Naples. For timetable and costs see their website www.vesuviana.it.

By Air

Naples International Airport (Aeroporto Internazionale di Napoli) is the main airport for the Campania region.

  • Curreri Viaggi is the company that runs regular bus services from Napoli Airport to Sorrento (Piazzo Tasso). The journey time is 1 hr 15 mins and the fare is €10 (2013) for a one-way trip. For timetable and further information, see their website www.curreriviaggi.it.
  • Viator offers private transfers from Napoli Airport to your Sorrento hotel. For more information and how to book see here.

By Boat

There are daily boat services from Naples port to Sorrento. Currently the two companies that operate services between Napoli Beverello and Sorrento are Alilauro and Gescab. The boat ride takes 35 minutes. For timetable and costs, see their websites www.alilauro.it or www.gescab.it.

If you are staying in Positano, there are regular ferry services to Sorrento during the summer months. Just go to the ferry pier and buy your ticket from the booth – no reservations required.

By Bus

From Rome – Marozzi runs a daily bus service from Rome Tiburtina station to Sorrento. There are two or three departures per day, depending on the time of year.  See their website www.marozzivt.it for timetable and costs.  Currently the website is in Italian only, but you can email them with queries in English.
From Amalfi – The SITA bus company runs regular services between Amalfi and Sorrento.  For updated timetables, see the SITA Sud website at www.sitasudtrasporti.it.  Look for the PDFs under Campania.

Excursions from Rome

For hassle-free travel, you can join a 2-Day or 3-day excursion from Rome that will take you to Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri. For more information about these tours and how to book, see Here.
