Hotel La Favorita is Centrally Located 4-Star Sorrento Hotel:

Hotel La Favorita

Grand Hotel La Favorita

For our three day visit in Sorrento, we stayed at the Grand Hotel La Favorita. This relatively new four-star hotel on Via Torquato Tasso enjoys a convenient location in the historical centre of Sorrento.

Hotel La Favorita

Hotel La Favorita is a beautifully appointed hotel with 85 very spacious rooms. The foyer is luxuriously decorated and the rooftop pool and restaurant offer magnificent view of the Bay of Naples. This rooftop is a nice place to enjoy a coffee or cocktail and some Sorrentine sun. The hotel has most things that travellers will be happy with on holidays.

There are plenty of shops and restaurants near the hotel and the train station is about a 10 minute walk away. If you’re planning on walking, bear in mind though that you will be pulling luggage over cobbled streets which can be difficult if you have heavy cases.

The breakfast was fine – nothing outstanding, and on all three evenings we dined out.

What We Liked

  • The hotel’s central position and being in the centre of everything
  • The cleanliness and size of the room and the pleasant decoration
  • Views from the rooftop

What We Found Disappointing

  • On previous trips to Sorrento we stayed at cliff-side hotels with magnificent views of the Bay of Naples. The sun and the sea are what we associate with a Sorrento holiday and we were deeply disappointed to find ourselves in a room in the basement level. When we asked for a change in room, we were told that they were full for the three days we were there. We came to Sorrento on a tour and from experience we know that group tours almost always get the cheapest rooms. This is no fault of the hotel, but instead of trying to create positive PR for the hotel, the Front Desk Manager took exception to us referring to the room as ‘basement’ level – it was after all, the level below the reception.
  • As the hotel advertises Free WiFi in the rooms, we had scheduled to do some work in Sorrento. We were very disappointed that WiFi in our room was non-existent. I mentioned this a couple of times to the Front Desk staff who were not interested in looking into the matter – they blamed it on too many users.  I was trying to access the internet past midnight and there shouldn’t have been too many users at that time, but shoulder-shrugs was the response I received. Not having WiFi access was an issue for us and the hotel should not advertise this as a feature if WiFi doesn’t work. This was in August 2012 – I hope they’ve addressed the problem by now.

Hotel La Favorita takes group tours and with its central location, it can be quite full during the peak tourist season. There is a building in front and to the left of it that are of similar height, so many of the rooms have obstructed views. If you are planning a long stay here in Sorrento and having an outlook is important, make sure to ask for a room with balcony and views of the Bay of Naples.  You can book the Grand Hotel La Favorita Here or search for other Sorrento hotels.
