Our Siena Apartment Right on the Famous Il Campo:

In Siena, we struck gold when it came to our apartment’s location. Sometimes it’s a bit difficult to tell exactly where your booked apartment is in relation to a particular site.  In Siena, the apartment’s location was beyond our expectations. It was right on Il Campo, Siena’s main square.

Il Campo Location

Luisa, the owner of the apartment, was there to meet us and when we stepped into the apartment, we were amazed by the view. You couldn’t ask for a better location and view in Siena.

Siena Tower

Torre del Mangia on Il Campo

Luisa is a very friendly and welcoming host. Her’s is a studio apartment with two balconies overlooking Siena’s main square, where the city’s famous Palio races take place. We enjoyed sitting by the balcony, enjoying our Aperol Spritz and watching the happenings in the Campo.

Apartment Features

Although the apartment is small, everything fits in nicely. The kitchen is very well equipped and Luisa provides packets of brioche and “fette biscottate“, the hard dry biscuit that Italians have for breakfast, jams, nutella, etc.

Nice touches provided by Luisa include a welcoming fruit basket and in the icebox there are two Bacio di Siena or Siena Kisses, a chocolate coated ice cream that is a favourite with the Sienese.

In the bathroom, there are small paper baskets with each day’s supply of toiletries.

Apartments in historical buildings in Europe very often do not have a lift, or if there is, there are still a number of steps to climb. In Luisa’s apartment building the lift goes all the way up to her studio on the second floor.

Via di Citta is the main street circling the historical centre. There are many shops here, as well as numerous restaurants in the vicinity.

Getting to the Apartment

We arrived in Siena by train. At the train station there is a taxi-stand. We did have to wait quite a while because of inclement weather, but the taxis did come eventually. For our return trip to the train station, we caught a taxi from the taxi stand on Piazza Independenza. It’s just 3 minutes walk from the apartment.

We enjoyed our stay at Luisa’s apartment very much and will definitely return again. Grazie mille Luisa.
