Christmas Concerts in Berlin

Christmas is a special time in Berlin and music is very much a part of the Berlin Christmas celebrations.

If you’re spending Christmas in Berlin, you too can enjoy one of the many Christmas concerts in the city.  Whether it be traditional Christmas music, classical concerts, choir concert, brass band or religious music, there is an impressive array of concerts to choose from, including Italian, Russian and Nordic Christmas music.

Famous Berlin Attractions

Many of these Christmas concerts are held at venues which are themselves famous Berlin attractions such as the Schloss Charlottenburg, Berliner Dom, Französischer Dom am Gendarmenmarkt, the Auen-Kirche Wilmersdorf, etc.

Most of these concerts are one-performance only events and popular concerts will sell quickly, so book early if you don’t want to miss out.

Berlin Christmas Concerts 2013

December 1, 8, 15, 22 Schloss Charlottenburg Orangerie: Advent Concert
A special way of enjoying an Advent concert is in the Schloss Charlottenburg, once home to the Prussian king. To give guests a taste of the grand atmosphere during the era of Frederick the Great, the members of the Berliner Residenzorchester and service personnel will be dressed in period costumes.  As well as traditional holiday music, the orchestra will perform works of Bach, Vivaldi, etc
December 1 Berliner Dom: Christmas Concert
At this Berliner Dom Christmas Concert, music lovers can enjoy selected works for trumpet and organ by Bach and Mozart as well as the traditional Christmas carols.
December 5, 7 & Jan 4 Berliner Dom:  Christmas Oratorio
Hear one of Bach’s most important choral works performed in the awe-inspiring atmosphere of the Berliner Dom, one of Europe’s most impressive basilica cathedrals. The St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig joins the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and soloists to present Bach’s well-loved Christmas Oratorio. Founded in 1212, the St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig specializes in singing the music of J.S. Bach.
December 8 Konzerthaus Berlin: Christmas Concert with the Vienna Boys’ Choir

The Camerata Instrumentale presents Johann Sebastian Bach’s festive Christmas Oratorio (Cantatas I-III) under the baton of Matthias Elger. The Christmas Oratorio BWV 248 is one of the most beloved and frequently performed sacred compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. 

Gethsemanekirche Berlin: Russian Christmas
Also on at the Gethsemanekirche Berlin is The Boys Choir of the Moscow Choral Academy of Arts who will bring a touch of Russian Christmas to Berlin.

The concert and dinner take place at the Grand Orangerie at Charlottenburg Palace.
